Necessary Evil
I rejoined LinkedIn last week. I had it briefly in the early 2010s but deleted it within a few months. And I had it again in 2024 but jumped ship after less than a week.
Every time I think I’m out, they pull me back in.*
I don’t like LinkedIn. It’s a distraction. It’s another way for investment wholesalers and recruiters to bother me. And it’s rife with needless debate, especially amongst the finance crowd. There are other things that irk me about it (and probably irk you too) but I don’t need to mention them. You know what they are.
So what am I doing back on LinkedIn? I want to grow Herlaar Wealth Management, and though I have regular blog readers and keep trying to write on industry websites, I’m not reaching enough people in wealth management who might want to work here.
This is a necessary evil. I’ll stick around for the long-term this time. I just hope all the posts about people being excited, thrilled, honoured, humbled, delighted, and grateful don’t make me jump ship again.
*With thanks to George Costanza, who took it from the Godfather: Part III.
